Frequently Asked Questions About Memory Care

Who can live at The Sylvestery?

The Sylvestery is open to all community members. No military affiliation is required. Preference for open suites will be given to residents currently residing in Vinson Hall Retirement Community.

What do the fees cover?

The Sylvestery has tiered pricing, which means there’s a base rate and then, based on the physical care needs of your loved one, the monthly fee is adjusted. The monthly fee covers the following:

  • A fully furnished private suite with a full bath
  • Three meals per day plus snacks
  • Personal care supplies and personal hygiene products
  • FiOS TV
  • Telephone
  • Wi-Fi
  • Personal laundry
  • Linen service
  • Housekeeping
  • Activities
  • Medication management

Medicare and supplemental insurance do not pay for assisted living services. Most long-term care insurance policies will cover a portion of the daily rate.

What services are available at an additional cost?

The Sylvestery has its own beauty salon, which is fee-for-service. Residents are also able to have Medicare B therapy and hospice support. Off-campus outings to a restaurant or museum would be an additional cost.

What happens if my loved one needs nursing care or rehabilitative care?

Arleigh Burke Pavilion provides nursing care and inpatient rehabilitative care. As a resident of The Sylvestery, your loved one will have priority access to these services.

What is the difference between memory care and assisted living?

The Sylvestery is a secure, licensed assisted living community that specializes in providing care and support to those dealing with a diagnosis of dementia. Residents living in a memory care community must have a diagnosis of a serious cognitive impairment. All staff members have additional training to care for and communicate with residents who have dementia. Assisted living residences, like Arleigh Burke Pavilion assisted living, primarily support individuals who need help with their daily living activities (bathing, dressing, toileting) and their instrumental activities of daily living (housekeeping, meal preparation, medication management).

What is the difference between memory care and nursing care?

Residents in nursing care typically need support with all daily living activities (bathing, dressing, transferring, toileting, eating). Residents in memory care can perform a few daily living activities on their own.

Can my loved one receive hospice services at The Sylvestery?

Yes, hospice can care for residents at any location within Vinson Hall Retirement Community.

What is respite care?

Respite care is a temporary stay in a community while a primary caregiver is away on vacation, recovering from a health concern, or simply needs caregiving relief. When suites are available, The Sylvestery can offer respite stays. A minimum stay of 30 days is required.

Can you describe the admission process?
