Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation FAQs

Q. What is the mission of Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation (NMCGRF)?
A. The mission of Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation is: ‘to enrich the lives of those around us, so they are free to live life to the fullest.’ Established in 1961 by the Naval Officers’ Wives’ Club of Washington D.C., our programs and services benefit the residents of Vinson Hall Retirement Community.

Q. What does NMCGRF raise funds for at VHRC?
A.  NMCGRF currently raises funds for three key areas of impact:
    - Resident Assistance Fund
    - Innovation and Enhancement
    - Wounded Warrior Transitional Housing at VHRC

Q. How does someone qualify for the Resident Assistance Fund?
A. If a resident has depleted his/her assets, through no fault of his/her own, then he/she is able to apply for resident assistance.  The program is 100% confidential and open to VHRC residents living in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Long-term Nursing Care, and Memory Support.

Q. Who lives at VHRC?
A. VHRC is a life plan community with multiple levels of care across the age continuum.

Independent Living:  Since 1969, Independent Living residences at Vinson Hall Retirement Community are open to commissioned military officers of all branches of service and their immediate family members. Our Independent Living residences are now open to GS-14 and above federal employees from the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs. Former employees of the CIA and NASA with a GS-14 and above grade also qualify as well as Foreign Service class level 1, 2, or 3.

Assisted Living: Open to the public
Long-term Nursing Care: Open to the public
Memory Support: Open to the public
Short-term Rehab: Open to the public

Q. Are gifts tax deductible?
A. Yes, as a 501(c)3 organization, donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of US law. Our federal tax ID number is: 27-3032859.  

Q. Can I make a gift ‘In Memory’ of or ‘In Honor’ of someone?
A. Yes, you can make your memorial or honorary gift online by clicking the the ‘Give Now’ button on the right of your screen. You can also mail a check with a note about the person you are memorializing or honoring to NMCGRF at 6251 Old Dominion Drive McLean VA 22101 or by calling our Development Office at 703-538-2970.

Q. Should I inform NMCGRF if I’ve included the organization in my will?
A. Yes, NMCGRF would like to thank you for the gift you plan to give.

Q. Does NMCGRF accept gifts of stock?
A. Yes, we do. Stock transfers are a simple transaction. Your stock broker can transfer your gift directly into our account. You can avoid tax on capital gains and receive an immediate charitable deduction for the fair market value. For information about other gift types, please click here.
