Rehabilitation and Respite Care Explained

What type of care is best?

Before you decide on what type of care is needed, consider the unique benefits of our Rehabilitation and Respite Care programs. While both of these services are different, at VHRC we provide the same individualized care to all our residents. Both services can improve the quality of life and have a profound effect on your overall wellness.

Benefits of Rehabilitation

After a surgery or illness, a rehab treatment program in our Arleigh Burke Pavilion is designed to help a senior patient recover quickly. A patient’s health dictates how much rehab is needed, but the end goal is always the same — to get back to your best self, fast.

Senior Rehab Therapy Services Overview

Our teamworks one-on-one with senior patients and follows a physician’s treatment plan. From recovery plans for a hip or knee replacement to treatment plans for serious chronic conditions such as heart problems or stroke recovery, our team addresses the unique goals and needs of each patient. Our rehabilitation services include:

  • Physical therapy to maximize physical abilities and independence
  • Speech therapy to help regain language, communication and swallowing skills
  • Occupational therapy to address self care and daily living skills
  • Physician and nurse practitioner services
  • Diagnostic and therapy services

Life-easing Conveniences in Rehab

Whether patients receive short-term treatment or long-term residential rehab services, comfort is top priority. Patients enjoy beautifully appointed suites, indoor courtyards and gathering spaces. Our staff is friendly and helpful, and there’s a full menu of life-easing conveniences that include:

  • Three chef-prepared meals per day and snack selections
  • Housekeeping and linen services
  • Engaging on-site activities
  • Medication management
  • Assistance with bathing, dressing, dining and personal care
  • Beauty and barber shop onsite

Benefits of Respite Care

Respite care has many benefits for both caregivers and seniors. Our program welcomes older adults in need of assisted living and memory care services and provides the specialized attention they need. During a respite stay, family caregivers will have peace of mind knowing that loved ones are in a safe environment. It’s a nice change of pace for seniors and gives primary caregivers a much-needed break.

Range of Services in Respite Care

Along with personal attention from professional caregivers, seniors can choose from a range of exceptional services and opportunities for intellectual and social engagement. Respite care includes the following services:

  • Ongoing assessments to optimize care plans
  • Customized menus and snack selections
  • Physician-ordered rehabilitation – if needed
  • Housekeeping and linen services
  • Medication management
  • Assistance with bathing, dressing, dining and personal care
  • Incontinence care
