Community Partnerships

Our vision is to be a leader in developing innovative models for senior living. We are a resident focused community, and value independence and individuality. Vinson Hall is dedicated to creating a better future for our residents as well as others within the community through research, technology application and program development. We embrace new ideas while cherishing the past, enhancing the present, and creating the future.

  • University Affiliations
    • Marymount University – Arleigh Burke Healthcare serves as a practice setting for freshman nursing students, Vinson Hall serves as a community health practice setting for students pursuing their BS in Nursing, and students have studied how care is given in an Alzheimer’s setting at The Sylvestery
    • Uniformed Services University (USU) – Dr. Sandra Bibb and Dr. Diane Padden of USU conducted a study at Vinson Hall to find out how access to health insurance affects the use of clinical preventive care
    • George Mason University – Through research and education, George Mason and Vinson Hall have designed programs to learn about the issues most concerning seniors today and improve seniors quality of life in the future
  • Intergenerational Programs
    • George Washington University (GWU) – We host several Intergenerational Discussion Groups and offer GWU students the opportunity to complete community service projects within our community
    • Chesterbrook Elementary - Programs in conjunction with Chesterbrook Elementary allow the students and residents to interact in art groups, discussion groups and book clubs
  • Educational Opportunities for Seniors
    • Himmelfarb University – College level courses offered at Vinson Hall by retired educators on subjects in anthropology, music and political sciences
    • Life Long Learning Institute – In conjunction with George Mason University, intellectual and cultural college level courses for those 55 and older are offered at Vinson Hall
    • Exploritas “Day of Discovery” – Vinson Hall is the only retirement community in the DC-metro region participating in these one-day explorations and half-day enrichment events offered through Elderhostel
  • Fine Arts Support
    • Fairfax Youth Symphony Orchestra – A youth orchestra composed of students from eight local high schools perform concerts at Vinson Hall
    • Levine School of Music – Several times per year, students practice their concert skills in our community before a live audience
    • Music Celebrations International – Based out of Tempe, AZ, this organization offers performance opportunities to youth groups at Vinson Hall, enabling these groups to receive grants and funding
    • Traveling Players – A nonprofit, educational theatre company located in Great Falls, VA that often uses utilizes Vinson Hall for dress rehearsals
    • Bach 2 Rock - Intergenerational music appreciation, therapy and performances are hosted at Vinson Hall
    • Fairfax County Senior Services – Vinson Hall provides a space for Fairfax County Senior Services to hold their dance programs
  • Universal Design for Seniors
    • Innovative Model of Living Apartment (IML) – Apartment 238 in Vinson Hall has been transformed to prove that senior living spaces can be highly functional, safe and beautiful given the right form, bold design, aesthetics and new technology
    • Fairfax County Building for All Committee (BFAC) – Partnered with the Fairfax County Area Agency on Aging and BFAC to use the IML apartment as a showcase for universal design concepts for seniors
    • Home Depot of Fairfax County – Helped create affordable, senior-friendly options of universal design features used in the IML apartment
  • Military Connections
    • Wounded Warrior – Vinson Hall raises funds to assist with various Wounded Warrior projects, including the development of transitional housing at Vinson Hall
    • Any Soldier – Residents hold an annual collection to organize care packages to be distributed to soldiers oversees through the Any Soldier organization
    • USS Carl Vinson – We collaborate with the ship sharing our namesake in commemoration ceremonies and historical initiatives
    • VA Medical Center – Our Health and Wellness Clinical Manager often takes Paro, the robotic therapy seal, to interact with residents on the DC Veterans Administration Community Living Floor
