My parents lived at Vinson Hall from 1994 to 2008. We had looked at several places but they immediately liked Vinson Hall more than anywhere – they found it so comfortable. My father had to live in the unit for memory impaired and the staff there really cared for and about him. There are always ups and downs in adjusting to a retirement community but Vinson Hall is like a family – people take good care of each other. Mainly, the care of the administration and staff is excellent. It is a gift to live in a place where people care. If ever there was a concern or issue, I got an immediate response – I was always heard, and that is very important to me.”

Deciding When to Move

“Mom sits on the sofa all day. She doesn’t get up to do anything anymore.”

“Dad wears the same pair of pants day after day.”

“My wife gets so restless in the afternoon; she seems really worried.”

An individual facing memory loss will find it harder and harder to keep track of time, plan the day and stay focused until a task is finished. For some people, the decreasing ability to control the details of life causes a great deal of anxiety. It becomes more difficult for them to” keep up” with the world around them.

Every family must decide for themselves when it is best to move their loved one into an assisted living community. But here are some things to consider:

  • Geriatric specialists note that it is much easier for people to move into a residential community while they still have the ability to adjust to new surroundings and benefit from the programs.
  • A specialized care community such as The Sylvestery maximizes individual abilities by providing cognitive enrichment and social opportunities.
  • A physical environment designed to foster interest and reduce anxiety as well as provide security can greatly improve the well-being of those with memory loss.

We welcome the opportunity to help you make the right decision for your loved one.
