My mother was a resident of The Sylvestery for almost two years..there was never a time when I would call or visit that they (staff) did not know my mom’s condition or status; I cannot recall Alison or Joanne ever having to refer to a chart or file to answer any question I posed. It was always so heartening to me to know mom was looked after so well. Additionally, Chaplain Harrison is simply beyond comparison—he spent many hours with my mother, and told me some wonderful stories about their chats. These people exemplify the utmost professionalism in your facility and represent the highest ideals of Vinson Hall’s mission."

Living at The Sylvestery

Each morning, your loved one will be given the help he or she needs to get up, bathed and dressed, ready to be greeted by other residents and staff in the sunny dining room. After breakfast, she might go on the morning walk with a caregiver, or he might choose to sit in the living room with another cup of coffee and the paper. Some residents will move into the solarium to await current events group, or maybe head for the beauty shop to get their hair done. When soup arrives, all know it’s time to gather in the dining room for lunch.

Sometimes a resident may just not feel like socializing, and that’s fine; we’ll be happy to bring a tray to the room, and we’ll check back later to encourage him or her to join the ladies and gentlemen for afternoon tea. If you come to visit around 2 or 2:30 p.m., you might find us singing and dancing to a live musician, or if the weather is warm, we’ll be out on the patio.

At 3 p.m., staff may be playing bingo with residents or gathering a group in the solarium for a craft activity. Grandchildren might be visiting on the way home from school. As the afternoon ends, staff and residents prepare for dinner. Once everyone has eaten, many will gather in the solarium to watch the news, or engage in a quiet activity with staff. One by one, the aides will go off to get residents ready for bed.

As night settles in at The Sylvestery, staff make their rounds, comforting and quieting, getting a sandwich and a glass of milk for someone who cannot sleep, chasing away a bad dream.
