    Resident Association
In lieu of resident councils, the residents of Arleigh Burke Assisted Living and Arleigh Burke Health Care Center have opted for a Resident Association format. A representative resident group from each level of care, along with administration and management, convenes once a month to listen to and discuss reports pertinent to resident life. New developments, policy implementations, staff changes, etc., are presented to the resident members for their review. Residents are encouraged to introduce issues of concern and propose suggestions for the betterment of Arleigh Burke and its residents.

    Spiritual Care
Vinson Hall has a chapel that is available for services of any belief—memorial services, weddings, private worships and meditations. The door is always open and the lights are inviting, [offering] private time 24 hours a day.    VH resident

Spiritual Care is an integral component of the Vinson Hall tradition of holistic care provided for residents of all faith traditions.
Spiritual Care includes:
            ♦ A genuine respect for ALL faith traditions;
♦ Religious services to meet worship needs of all residents at the Vinson Hall Chapel and throughout the Vinson Hall Retirement Community;
♦ Availability of on-site spiritual counseling for residents, family members and staff;
♦ Visitation in residences, hospitals and other care settings to address spiritual and religious needs of residents who are ill or convalescing or in rehabilitation programs;
♦ A Director of Ministerial Services, who serves all residents and staff of Vinson Hall Independent Living, Arleigh Burke Assisted Living and Nursing Care and The Sylvestery.

    Activities & Entertainment
    Our Activity Program is designed such that every resident has opportunities to stay active and involved. Each month our Activities Director develops a schedule of activities describing all of the events in which they can participate (Click here  to see this month's Activities Calendar). There’s always something to do here:
     Games—card games, board games and active games (such as balloon volleyball). Bingo is always a resident favorite.
     Arts & Crafts—beading, collage or decorating objects
     Performers—musicians perform for our residents on a regular basis
     Hobbies—knitting and baking are popular pastimes in our residence
    Because we have a wheelchair accessible bus, our Activity Department is able to schedule a variety of excursions throughout the year:

    Ideas and suggestions from residents concerning activities and outings are not only welcome, but encouraged, so that activity programming can be altered to meet the needs of all residents of Arleigh Burke Pavilion.

    With assistance from our Social Services Director, our residents have formed clubs that are both interesting and cognitively stimulating:
    Arleigh Burke Pavilion Book Club
    The Book Club meets on the first Thursday of every month in the Health Center Activity Room. Residents from Assisted Living and the Health Center gather to discuss a work, usually fiction, from the Reader’s Digest Large Print Select Editions.  We provide the books and we facilitate the discussions.

    Arleigh Burke Pavilion Music Appreciation
    Music Appreciation is a monthly program that focuses mostly on classical music on disc that residents listen to together. Handouts and commentary on composers and performers are provided to residents from the Health Center and Assisted Living by our social worker and a resident who is known as a patron of the arts. The Friday program is repeated on the 300 and 400 units of the Health Center and takes place in the unit lounges.

    Walk with Me
    This Arleigh Burke Pavilion program has staff assisting Health Center residents to go outside of the facility for sunshine and fresh air.  When the weather is not conducive to outings, residents are assisted in a walk or wheelchair ride within the facility.
    All of these activities and programs are made possible by a caring, compassionate staff. We also have a few volunteers who assist with these activities and who spend personal time with residents, helping them read, write a letter to family, play a game of cards or just sit with them and have a discussion. And as our Volunteer Program grows, we will be able to offer more services to all residents of Vinson Hall Retirement Community. We always welcome volunteers to help us better serve our residents. If you are interested in volunteering click here for more information.
